That said, sneaker soles notwithstanding, I think the overall look of the rest of the costume is more-or-less 'bang on,' although the pokey bits (fins?) hanging from his forearms seem a bit long and impractical.

Agreed with you guys, could be the colors as well as it looks lack luster in the photo.
