It's odd, many of the older Toybiz ML figures had perfectly effective fly joints (the old Spider-Man figures come to mind), you would think they would have set a new standard.
There have been figures with butterfly joints throughout the line. For Hasbro, that was mostly from reusing Toybiz bodies until the Superior Spider-Man figure in 2014, which used a completely new body (and the ASM2 Spidey in the same wave, which used a one-off body). The next year, 2015, that body would be changed to have a longer torso, and released as normal Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099. That body has been used for several characters since then, like Ice-Man, Black Ant (an evil android version of the Irredeemable Ant-Man, Eric O'Grady), Superior Venom, Sensational (Ben Reilly) Spider-Man, Speed Demon, Electro, and Iron Fist, and most recently, Black Costume Spider-Man, and is going to be used as All-New, All-Different (Parker Industries) Spider-Man later this year. There were also butterfly joints on the Civil War MCU Spider-Man released in mid 2016, and there will be on the new Starktech suit body they're releasing twice (once single-carded, once in a two-pack) for Spider-Man: Homecoming. The body this Sunfire is on is a new one that just got introduced early this year/late last year (depending on whether you count the Sandman wave's release year as the year it was technically
supposed
to come out, or the year it
actually
came out, respectively) with All-New, All-Different Spider-Man 2099. That figure and this Sunfire are the only two figures that have used this body so far.
