Well I bit the bullet and finally got my first Japanese company figure. I generally stay away from the likes of Figuarts and Mafex because while their products are good they are also expensive for their size. I decided to finally get Figma's Pyramid Head figure because it seems pretty obvious no one else is even going to look at Silent Hill merchandise.
First I'll share some thoughts on the box even though it's not pictured (too much glare to get a good shot). Physically it's nice and sturdy and I like the black and maroon color scheme but why is he called "red pyramid thing?" James calls him that a total one time as where multiple item descriptions in-game refer to him as Pyramid Head. Given the amount of empty space on the front of the box they should have enlarged the Silent Hill 2 logo to fill things out.
Right, onto the figure itself. I really like it and not just because my choices were this or nothing. Well built, well sculpted, well painted, and well articulated. I typically don't like the way Figma's joints look on other figures but being a monster does give Pyramid Head a pass. My only actual complaint about the look of the toy is that he should be paler to match SH2 but they still capture his sickly look anyway. His weapons are great and his alternate hands really encourage finding different ways to display him. Not sure why he has fists though, not really something he ever did. He has an alternate neck to display him as he impaled himself but why would I want to display him defeated when he can be so much more?
As my first Japanese toy I still think I had to pay too much but I can't deny the quality of the figure itself. If I didn't already know he was in the ever-weird 5.5" scale I'd be upset as a proper 7" scale Pyramid Head would've been my ideal size but as an independent piece in my collection he'll be fine.
