Answer truthfully, how many of you here have actually ever read BP comics from the 60's till now? I bet less than 20% of you can say you have. The vast majority of you just know of BP due to his appearance in CW. News flash for you MCU fans, the Panther's list of villians & allies in the comics that are actually popular or relevant is very small. His female bodyguards have hardly ever been a centerpiece for comic stories that I have read. His major arch-villain's list consists of like 3, with Klaw being the most famous followed by Man-Ape & Kilmonger. I would buy all 3 if re-done.
BP to me, has always been an Avenger and then a solo hero. He needs female BGs about as much as he needs suntan lotion while swimming in the Wakandan beach.
Part of the disappointment with the wave comes from the fact that the movie features a predominantly non-white cast which is a big step toward equality in Hollywood. And seeing that the first two figures in the wave are white guys, white kings no less, is disappointing in that regard. The other part comes from the rumored lists a while back which stated that the BP wave would have several Illuminati members instead of people associated with BP. Black Bolt and Namor, who were shown today, are two members of the Illuminati which doesn't bode well for the remainder of the wave.
I'll admit right now that I've never read any Black Panther comics but I'm not totally without knowledge of the character. For characters related to Black Panther, comic versions of T'Challa's sister Shuri as Black Panther, M'Baku the Man Ape, and Klaw would help fill out the wave nicely. Plus they're all in the movie. If you want bigger names, then Storm, the Human Torch, and the Thing could be included. T'Challa was married to Storm for a while and they both served as members of the Fantastic Four when Reed and Sue left the team after Civil War.
