I think they've learned some lessons from Icons and the Animated Series which will help this line continue. Kevin mentioned in the video that some of the less popular Animated Series characters would only be released in multipacks along with a couple of fan favorite characters to help sell the set. They could apply that formula to Essentials when doing some of the characters Dr. Kain has mentioned.

They've never really had any reason to try an on going line before now. DC Direct was set up to specifically offer characters based on a specific body of work. That's why you only ever saw a couple of waves for things like The New Frontier or Brightest Day. Their attitude was basically "We've put it out and now we're moving on".
