I think it's all kind somewhat been a cycle of what's popular for whatever reasons at times, practically by decades. Spider-Man has been popular throughout of course. Avengers were in their prime in the 60's and mid 70's and took a back seat to the X-Men in the 80's and 90's, only to come into the fore again in the 00's and 10's. F4 had their heyday in the 60's and 70's too and has never really regained that. Daredevil and Hulk as popular as they are have never been a top billing the same way other corners of the MU have, they've always taken at least 3rd or even 4th billing compared to others, and Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider and many other solo heroes even less than that. GOTG remained obscure until the late 00's and didn't really hit it big until the movie, and now they're way up there right behind Avengers.
Maybe one day the door opened by GOTG will allow more properties to flourish next decade, I think Marvel is pretty much set on trying to determine what's popular (by that I mean what they're pushing) for the rest of this decade. I think one of the reasons Inhumans didn't really succeed (so far) is that it's too many corners Marvel is trying to push at once. Something was bound to not be a runaway success at some point.
