@Boy Blunder
Great idea for getting things turned around here! I would also say that while I liked many figures this year, I didn't feel like there were a ton of stand outs. So much so that I'm including a couple of 12" Legends to round out my Top 10 list. I won't be including the Sandman wave since I found it last year before Christmas. I'm also still waiting on the Black Panther wave which may release before Christmas and the 12" Wolverine figure which is starting to come out but I have yet to find it.
10. Captain America - The Vintage Wave
A bit of a cheat but I really like this figure. The scale armor turned out really well on this figure and the colors really pop for me. Even though it's a repaint, I've just had a lot of fun with this figure.
9. Cyclops - Warlock Wave
I've always really liked Jim Lee's X-Men and this was one of my most anticipated figures for the year when it was announced at SDCC/NYCC (I don't remember which Con). The figure turned out pretty well but the straps are a bit of a pain. But still, it's a Jim Lee Cyclops.
8. Colossus - Warlock Wave
I had zero interest in this figure when it was announced but I immediately wanted it once I saw it in person. The Select figure has been my go-to Colossus for the past few years but this has definitely replaced it. And he helps fill out my small collection of modern X-Men which includes mohawk Storm, Old Man Logan, Kitty, and Deadpool.
7. Mary Jane - TRU 2 Pack
Thank god for online ordering as I was able to get this figure without any trouble. Unlike most people, I didn't have problem with her hair or the fact that she didn't have the heart shaped Spidey mask on her shirt. It's great to finally have a MJ figure since she's been a really big part of Spiderman's cast of characters.
6. Gamora - Mantis Wave
Gamora was another that figure that surprised me with how good she was. The figure from the first movie was pretty bad so the bar was low for this figure. Not only did she surpass my expectations, but she looks like she stepped off of the screen.
5. Daredevil - 12 Inch SDCC Exclusive
This figure came packed with the extras. Not only does the figure come with two alternate heads and billy clubs, but he also comes with swappable forearms and 2 pairs of hands covered in blood spatter. The figure is a lot of fun to pose and play with due to the different options. Going the extra mile, the info on the back of the box is in braille.
4. Invisible Woman - Walgreens Exclusive
I was a little bummed that we didn't get an actual Fantastic Four wave but I'll take whatever updates I can get. The figure looks great and the phasing effect is really nice, though I really wish they would have done this on more than an arm and a hand.
3. Black Panther - Walmart Exclusive
While I have the Rocket Raccoon wave version of Black Panther, I definitely like this updated one more. The color palette they chose helps him look like BP from Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes which is one of my favorite cartoons and my first introduction to Panther. And the accessories provide a lot of options for posing and play.
2. The Punisher - Netflix Wave
While he didn't get much screen time in Daredevil Season 2, I really like Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and his solo series was really great. While the figure comes with a pistol and an assault rifle, he looks awesome with a sawed off shot gun from a Neca Terminator figure. I actually like this figure more than the comic book Punishers we've gotten.
1. The Hulk - 14 Inch
My Favorite figure of the year, and he's on sale right now! The figure is very posable despite his size and very expressive. My biggest gripe with this figure is that he comes with blue pants instead of purple but that's a pretty small complaint. When Hasbro gets to making a 6 inch comic Hulk, I really hope they try to shrink this figure down.
BAF - Gladiator Hulk
I wasn't too impressed with the BAFs for the year but I would say that Gladiator Hulk is my favorite. Like his 14 inch brother, the figure is a lot of fun to play with. Since most of the clothing/armor are separate pieces, we'll likely see this figure retooled into a regular, Earth-bound Hulk for Infinity War.
Best 2 Pack - Dark Phoenix
While the 2 packs this year were pretty good, most only had one stand out figure. But the Dark Phoenix 2 pack just seemed to be leaps and bounds ahead of the others. I considered putting these two in my Top 10 but they deserved their own spot. While Cyclops is just a simple repaint with a new head, his costume shading is looks fantastic and is quite impressive when compared to the Jim Lee Cyclops from the Warlock wave. Dark Phoenix is the real star of the set and she looks AMAZING! Out of her alternate heads, I like her evil one the best.
Retro Purchase - Classic Hulk from the Fin Fang Foom Wave
I got tired of waiting for Hasbro to do a comic Hulk for 6 inch Legends so I went on eBay to purchase the classic, green Hulk from the Fin Fang Foom wave. I purchased this figure years ago but sold it in favor of the Face Off Hulk. But the Face off Hulk is now too tall to fit in with the new Abomination and I don't really like Hasbro's movie Hulks except for the Ragnarok version. I'm glad to finally have this figure back in my collection again.
