Well,
I bought only 10 figures from this year's offerings, but, in ascending order, here they are:
10. Major Victory / Vance Astro - I love the shiny blue, but the lack of moulded detail on the figure and the shield puts him at the bottom of the heap.
9. Bullseye - Nice update and fun accessories but also lacking in moulded detail
8. Darkhawk - I loved this character when I first read him. The wings are nice, and he looks really good in flying poses.
7. Beetle - As others have said, nice combination of existing and new parts. Looks great in almost every pose. He also pushes my 'nostalgia button' in looking so much like he did in Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends.
6. Dark Phoenix - I would have put her lower on the list, but the extra heads are such cool, though obviously necessary, accessories that she has to take the #6 spot.
5. Shatterstar - The 'nostalgia button' is pushed again. I have to love any figure that so wells creates a 3D representation of the '90s character. I would love some swords in a harder plastic, but this is a toy afterall.
4. Moon Knight - Another favourite character from my teens, and this is the absolute best representation in plastic form. The accessories are also top notch, even if the figure can't hold the top spot.
3. Cyclops (DP two-pack) - A vast improvement over the old ToyBiz mould, this is the definitive look for Scott Summers for me. It's like the red and gold armour for Iron Man, the yellow oval under black bat chest symbol for Batman, the purple pants for the Hulk, etc. It's simple yet easily recognisable as Cyclops.
2. Vintage/Retro Wolverine - One of my top 4 favourite comic book superheroes of all time this is, to me, the best Wolverine mould I've ever seen. Add to that, the colours more closely matching his Secret Wars figure, and my 'nostalgia button' has broken under the strain. It's stuck in the 'on' position and is likely to trigger the end of the universe...
However, the #1 spot goes to...
1. Daredevil (Netflix) - Another of my top 4 favourite comic book characters of all time, I love this figure. The moulded detail is there in copious amounts; the colours are just lovely; and the likeness to the MCU character looks great to me. I tend to keep my 'real world' version superhero figures separate from my 'comic book' version superhero figures, so I needed this figure to fill one of the empty slots in my collection. He does so without making it look like he is working; he makes it look that easy. Superb figure and deserves my top spot for the year.
