I remember those glory days of Toys-R-Us. It seems mind boggling these days to think just how many of your favorite toys they could fit inside of one store. It almost seemed impossible to go there and not find something you were looking for. Purchased a lot of video games there as well back in ye old days.
But now a Toys-R-Us run for me is drive 35 or 40 miles to find they have nothing I collect in stock. That 35 or 40 miles back home with nothing to show for the trip just makes it so discouraging to make a Toys-R-Us run. The website is even worse than the in-store disappointment, just less gas to burn.
Just such mixed feelings on things like their Marvel Legends exclusives. They would somehow get the cool stuff for an exclusive but I think out of all their Marvel Legends exclusives I was only able to snag two over the years. I got to using the nickname of Scalpers-R-Us because as a collector you really didn't have any chance at the exclusives.
Wal-Mart exclusives, Target exclusives, Walgreens exclusives were something I could track down, but forget about finding that exclusive at Toys-R-Us. I know it's kind of bad taste to kick someone when they are down, but it seems like could have done more to keep collectors loyal instead of feeling like Toys-R-Us wasn't a good place for a collector to make a toy run.
Guess it's just part of getting old to watch things go away. Heck I remember back when there was a thing called GI Joe at toy stores so anything can have an expiration date, even Toys-R-Us.
