I'm not exactly sure why "purists" have such a problem. Godzilla has always evolved in his design. Even the original to final wars. They all are different from each other. Some with drastic changes, some with subtle tweaks. Not to mention the Hanna Barbera one too.

New Godzilla variations and changes are about almost as common as how wildly Gundams vary.
