I'm not bothered by the presence of the vinyl strips and printed patterns on Mezco figures, though I do understand why some people are. My issue with Green Lantern is that the extra detailing is altering the look of his costume. Like you said in your other post, it's hard to tell which GL costume John is supposed to be wearing. I can see John's regular GL uniform in there but the green pattern on the body is the problem. If they had made those vinyl pieces on his mid-section and legs black instead of green, I think it would really help the figure's overall look.

But getting back to the vinyl and print used on other Mezco figures, I think it gets used because the muscle definition isn't visible/noticeable due to the fabric. The extra detailing provided by the vinyl pieces and printed patterns make that less noticeable.
