lol. I use to prefer figures. But I guess as one grows older, the PRIMARY motivation for buying these things tend to be a desire to have a representation that captures the character really well. In that sense, the visible joints or seams of a moveable figure can be a bit a negative. I personally still love figures though because it gives me a chance to pose them in unique ways and display them however I like.
In terms of secondary motivation, one can buy based on the “appeal” you mentioned here, or simply based on Artistic merit (great sculpting and paint work etc). Only issue is that if one starts buying based in artistic merit, that can get out of control really fast in terms of which figures to buy. There are just way too many well done statues these days with the new technology available. They are pumping them out really fast and at the high price point they have for them, it’s hard to keep up.
