When Battle Blades Optimus hit stores, I reconsidered this figure, and I'm glad I did! Under the horrible paint job is an amazing figure!
It's everything the Leader scale should have been. He looks just like the screen version, and especially the tank mode has been improved. He's highly posable as well, able to get in all sorts of evil, lurching poses. He features a complete head-to-toe paint job using Testor's and Games Workshop acrylics by hand.
I wanted him to be as movie accurate as I could as far as the paint, so instead of using any production art, I paused the film when Megatron was visible. He is more or less silver completely, but alot of color is added due to the rich patinas added from undersea time. In the film version there's alot of blueish and rusty brownish tones, but they are worn and silver scuffs are seen, giving it a silver, yet colorful appearance. I tried to duplicate the effect with 5 stages of drybrushing, using 2 silvers, flat engine gray, clear green and clear Flesh Wash. The inside of the backpack area was left darker to detract from attention.
