To be fair, Zyuranger was the first series to drop the boxy looking mecha, so while the designs do have flaws by today's standards, this was quite a feat back in 1992.
It was also at a time where the toys were second nature to the shows. These days, the toys come first, and then if there is time, a plot and character development might be squeezed in.
Nevertheless, I'm not surprised there are some minor issues with them combined, I just had hoped they would have been able to make it all work without them, especially since before Daizyujin had come out, many people on a specific message board were saying the SOC was the greatest invention ever and that the Sentai mecha would be the ultimate versions ever.
Don't get me wrong, I doubt even Hasbro will be able to top them (and honestly, I'm done buying the Zyuranger mecha at this point as the SOCs are show accurate in design and detail), but considering the hype that board posed, I am a little disappointed.
