Macross Model Kits

Looking around eBay, I find some Macross model kits. I really like the look of these, and have the 1/60 Macross Chogokin DX Luca (not the model version), but I dont know anything about them. Could someone give me some opinions/information?
Firstly, are these available in both 1/60 and 1/72, or only 1/72 scale (I dont think that I want any smaller than that)? If there are several scales available, is one generally 'better' than the others in some way?
How big are the figures when assembled?
Do the kits contain metal parts, and are they pre-painted, basic painted or plain white plastic?
They seem to be quite pricey, are they worth the list cost on these boxes (although they do seem far cheaper than the pre-assembled action figures)?
Are they actually good figures? I dont follow the show, so I dont care about any show accuracy, and I am a pretty experienced modeller, so the complexity doesnt scare me at all, but I want an end product that is a good action figure (not just a good model or kit) and which I can actually transform and display and will take the use over time.
And, finally, which are the best kits to get? I am thinking of a Michael Gunner Macross Frontier, and if I can get him in 1/60, will he look right next to my Bandai Luca figure?
Many thanks for any help that you guys are able to give me. I really appreciate it. Thanks.
