It really doesn’t seem like the suit should have any effect over merchandising for the sequels, expect they couldn’t use the generic Friday the 13h name, they would specifically need to say something like “Friday the 13th Part III” or whatever movie they’re licensing from (like why you see Hellraiser 3 and Halloween resurrection merch rather than the originals)

The lawsuit is affecting the entire franchise, all merchandise included. While Jason wasn't an adult until the sequels Miller is arguing that he is still the creator of the character. Since the character rights are in dispute they're suspended until the dispute is settled which apparently neither party is ready to do.
