Strange choice for Super7 to start doing some of the oddball costume variants for the turtles. Choices like that are going to make me not be a completist with their Reaction line. The silly cosplay variants is what I really hate about the vintage line (especially the Star Trek and Universal Monsters costumed turtles). I remember having WTF reactions when seeing all these weirdly costumed variants of the turtles in the toy aisles back then. To me it reeked of Playmates' desperation to keep the toy line alive when they started running out characters from the actual cartoon and lacked the creativity in coming up with new mutant characters to add to the line. So I'm surprised Super 7 wants to pay tribute to the worst aspect of the vintage line before doing important secondary characters like Rat King, Slash, Leatherhead, or Metalhead. I really hope they don't do this with the 7" scale line too. I'm not paying $45 per figure for Leonardo dressed up as Captain Kirk, Raphael as an Apollo 11 astronaut, Donatallo as Dracula, or Michaelangelo as a Wild West Cowboy.
I agree with you on the variants. I always thought they were ridiculous as a kid, too. It does kind of seem like it's right up Super7's alley, though - as far as another set of 'wacky vintage-inspired figures'. I had these on pre-order at BBTS, but pulled out at the last minute. I'll stick with Robocop, and if they get to it - Conan. The ReAction figures are just too expensive to start collecting across multiple lines. I feel like I dodged a bullet backing out of the TMNT like I did...
