(Title should say SLIDESHOW not hunt to be more accurate....doh)
I bought every single season of the TMNT 90’s cartoon…just to see the possible action figures from NECA….
Not nearly as many “mutants” (animal/human/mutagen hybrids) as I thought, surprised me. Playmates made a lot of originals.
But, LOADS of POTENTIAL NEW FIGURES!
Like most of us, we probably watched the show a long time ago sporadically. Or, in bits as adults. I could only remember some of the main characters. I mostly remembered the Playmates toys.
Mannnny playmates figures were not found in the cartoon! It makes even more sense why Super7 is remaking making them.
On the flip side, I had no idea some of the cool potential figures that were tucked away in the 90’s show. Some that never got a figure.
I watched the whole series from start to finish. Taking pictures of the screen with my phone. Screenshots were disabled. BUT I DID IT FOR YA’LL! Love for my toy peeps! I cropped everything up to make it nice too
I couldn’t find a quick slideshow sweeping over the entire series from start to finish with ease. One that was solely focused on the figs at that!
So I made it!
Hope you guys enjoy!
100’s of eps jammed into probably a 5 min slide show focused on potential NECA action figures. Figures…drool….
I took pictures of pretty much EVERYTHING…ALL MUTANTS, for sure.
If NECA already made them, I might have skipped over…My stupid brain was cutting things out. Not thinking it would be annoying for others when looking through. Noob mistake.
I captured everything with no bias. Absolutely everything with potential to be a figure. Even if it was a background character seen once on the show. Or even if I didn’t like it.
Beyond that, there were some unbelievably boring aliens, big monsters, robots, whatever, the turtles would fight. A lot of those had zero potential as a figures for every reason imaginable, so, I left them out. Many redundant aliens and robots on the show…oof. Nothing about them that had any identity.
(Neutrinos…I promise they are the only characters of note I distinctly remember not photographing because I didn’t like them, noob mistake, I’d probably buy them too, I’m buying everything else lol)(News team might not be all there because human)
TRUST ME, if they ever make a figure that is not on this list, they are 300 figures deep or using some prototype stuff from un-aired episodes or simply creating their own thing.
I paused the screen at every possible action figure worthy thing.
(IF I MISSED SOMETHING OF NOTE, TELL ME, I’LL ADD IT…but you won’t catch me :P)
I didn’t capture many of the vehicles.
Didn’t see NECA making many except of the photos I took and maybe a turtle van. Maybe some others. I was mainly focused on action figures.
Same goes for all of the AMAAAAZING human characters throughout the whole show. So much personality in the faces and bodies. Cartoons seriously lack that today. I would love to see so many of the humans made into action figures. Aside from the obvious main characters. The designs are so so so great for action figures. But, beyond the news team and few other humans of note, they probably wouldn’t crank out any more than the mains. Too many other mutants and all that stuff to get too. Very slim chance for those extra random people so I didn’t bother.
EVERYTHING IS UPLOADED TO GOOGLE PHOTOS……
I suggest looking at the full show list, maybe I was a little lazy with the other albums lol Sorry no episode numbers or characters names…too much work.

WRAP UP!:
It’s kinda crazy, the show didn’t seem to know itself. Mutations and mutants from mutagen are hardly found throughout a series with so many freakin’ episodes of a show based on that very thing. And, a toy line focused solely on that.
So many useless TV type stories without any mutants at all. Like, boring generic alien arrives for a 1960’s like plot romp. The turtles fighting the mob, but not mutants dressed as mobsters to make it more colorful, just humans. It's so easy to twist a lot of those stories to fit the narrative of the overall show.
At least, with so many episodes, there were enough times they hit the mark, intentionally or unintentionally, to where we have a good lot of figures to look forward to.
For some reason, only way later in the show, it seemed like they said, “Oh wait, more mutants on the show like the playmates!”. Sadly, it was too late.
You can see it in the FULL LIST ALBUM. It’s in chronological order. If you watch from beginning to end, you can see where Mondo Gecko finally comes in and then a whole slew of new tmnt style “mutant” characters show up consecutively. But it’s like the last couple episodes of a later season. There had already been soooo many episodes at that point. All these filler type episodes. The audience was either still not watching or didn’t care the show had finally figured out what episodes needed to be like on a regular basis. When that didn’t seem to work, they went ahead with plans to ditch Shredder, and make a major shift into more sci-fi stuff. Felt even less like the show at that point. Weird.
That’s another reason the new Super7 Playmates TMNT figs are looking so good to me right now. Playmates knew the heart of the show and what people wanted more than the show did! HA! Overall the designs are more detailed and sculptural as well.
It doesn’t diminish the NECA cartoon line at all. The insane amount of episodes delivers a lot of stuff that hits the action figure mark. It’s also more eclectic than the Playmates/Super7 line. Alien style “mutants”, many variations of robots, possibly a few more human characters, tmnt mutant style figures in cartoon detail, and many little things here and there that fill up the world. THE VENDING MACHINE ROBOTS???? WANT THEM ALL, LOVE’EM!!!
It feels more like a world than Playmates narrow focused line on “mutants”. I really like that distinguishing aspect of the 90’s cartoon NECA line.
Across the board, all of the cartoon mutant designs are quite different from the Playmates. All GREAT! Cartoon Tokka and Rahzar, in my opinion, are the best designs of any variation. I can’t wait!
If you are excited for Bebop and Rocksteady variants, BUCKLE UP! lol. That had to be said. I definitely want a few of those. But there are A LOT. Didn’t even photograph some…trust me, it’s okay, they were nothingness. Those to guys and Shredder were in almost every single GD episode. That’s why they weren’t making new mutants. It’s the boys, the brain, and shred. Over and over and over lol. They are amazing, but, if they dipped out more often we could have had some more rad mutants.
When I think of the number of episodes…with a structured narrative…there would be like 500 different TMNT style mutants.
I’m more excited than ever to collect all of the NECA’s and SUPER7’s. No other choice for me.
I also hope this list generates even more excitement for BOTH TOY LINES! LOVE YOU GUYS! Thank you so much for all of the fun
HEY JOE!
I couldn’t find a creature movie, but, it’s the closest to creature stuff I got for ya. I hope this has some actual surprises for you! Thanks for all the hard work on the site, turtle power!
You’ll be thrilled to know that I’ve heard from several different people who have close ties to Neca that there are prototypes for almost everything in the cartoon, films, and games. EVERYTHING. Neca is planning long term for the line, as long as they can find retail partners willing to spread the costs. Hopefully the covid19 crap doesn’t hurt Target to the point they cut back on product lines.
