I’ve worked retail, wholesale, and manufacturing. Customer is often a paste-eating moron. Customer is often mocked, and the skill of sales is to make the paste-eating moron THINK he's getting a good deal. It's like gambling, the house always wins over time.
People seem to forget that companies work on projections and known quantities. When a company pitches an exclusive, they tell the store the costs, profits, and margin they’ll get. Contracts for exclusives are usually a set amount. “You buy 4K widgets, you sell them for $50, you make $15ea, we make $12ea”. They aren’t “leaving money on the table” because they already met their goal. A lot of the toy industry works that way. Even the big boys
Add to that restrictive licensing deals that can limit quantity. I'm just as frustrated as many people, but I'm not resorting to conspiracy theories about creating shorting runs. I've never seen the last TMNT wave in Target outside 1 Turtle 2-pack the 1st week those went out. I was lucky enough to recently secure a Bebop and Rocksteady set through friends. But I see plenty of people on my Twitter feed who find them at their Targets, generally in less dense areas where there's less people waiting to grab them up the second they go out.
The biggest thing NECA should do is work with Target and Walmart to do pre-orders, and limit the amount that can be ordered per household. NECA has already shown, with Bebop and Rocksteady, they can do multiple production runs if needed. So they adjust accordingly if they can.
