Something this big, if I wanted to go for it, I would of course discuss with my wife before pulling the trigger on, because regardless of your financial situation, that's still a big wad of cash. Because she'd do the same with me if she wanted to buy something that expensive.
It's called communication and being adults. If your significant other is that derisive/antagonistic towards you over the hobby, you need to reexamine the relationship and talk to them about that, not play it off like "ha ha married life am i rite".
If you need to be the one to broach the subject of your ridiculous toy expenditures, I'm sorry to say your relationship is already over. The power move is to just spend the bread and flaunt your ridiculous toys in front of your significant other.
Here's what the conversation should be like:
Significant other: "Why do you buy this stuff? It's dumb. It's for kids. What are you like 5 years old?"
You: "I'm a first responder, damn it, and I'll do what the hell I want." *mic drop*
If that doesn't work, still just do and buy whatever you want but just keep opening new credit cards so your financials are untraceable.
