1) We have had numerous situations (not just G.I. Joe) where we have had a line tied into a Movie. Years of frustration, starting with Indiana Jones to the currenty Iron Man 2 figures. Retailers always order in large quantities of figures(mainly) to stock their shelves in hopes of selling all just because the product is tied to a Summer Movie. With years of experience, we as collectors know that there are numerous Waves of product to be released up to and beyond the holiday season. My question is, how can you sell enough product to retailers where both stores and Hasbro are both happy without saturating the pegs and shelves with the first couple of waves? Have you considered online-exclusive, single carded figures? Most kids(& COLLECTORS) get what they want within months release of a Wave. After the product just sits until the Holiday season, in hopes of selling the rest from the inital order. For example Rise of Cobra. Fans are worried that they might not be able to find figures such as the long awaited Low Light, in Pursuit Of Cobra Wave 4.
A) Believe me, we know how frustrating these situations can be. Our goal is always to make sure that we ship the correct amount of product. We want to move enough product quickly enough so that fans and kids can get all of the figures we have to offer. We hate to put work into a figure that never hits shelves as much as you hate not being able to get it. This is probably the hardest thing that we do and it is an inexact science. We do, however, spend a lot of time studying what happened in previous lines so that we can be smarter the next time around. This is all a long winded way of saying that we are working as hard as we can to make sure that stores, collectors, kids and Hasbro are all happy with the quantity and mix of product.
2) Are IDW GI Joe designs off limits, or is it too soon to make figures of them? We've seen figures based on DDP's designs, and with IDW comics such as GI JOE: COBRA, fans want comic-based designs and miss the comic packs!
IDW designs aren't off-limits, per se. These designs are just not part of our current strategy. Comic based designs and comic packs are something that come up frequently in conversations but we have no current plans for either. The reality is that they are just not feasable in the current line. They end up being too expensive and don't sell well enough to justify.
3) Is Sgt. Slaughter coming to retail as part of the Renegades line, or part of a separate line?
A) Unfortunately, the Sarge will not be available in mainline or any other line. Sorry.
