Luke Skywalker IS Mark Hammill, Marty McFly IS Michael J. Fox, Peter Venkman IS Bill Murray, etc, etc, etc...
Every time someone that knows Star Wars sees Mark Hammill, they associate him with Luke Skywalker. If you've seen BttF, you associate Michael Fox with Marty McFly.
Iron Man is not Robert Downey, Captain America is not Chris Evans, etc, etc, etc...
They are characters that can be done differently, but the actors are not the final, ultimate version of these characters. I see MCU Ant-Man and it's the guy from Clueless. I see Thor and it's that guy from Cabin in the Woods. The MCU actors often had careers before the MCU and the actors can be associated with different characters than just the MCU characters.
Let's just say that they had cast Mark Hammill as Dr. Strange. When you saw that action figure, would you see Dr. Strange or would you see Luke Skywalker wearing a Dr. Strange costume?
So I get why people see an MCU figure with an actor's likeness and they just see a figure of a real-life person dressed up as a comic character.
I can't have "that same energy applied to other properties" because it doesn't make sense. Why would I hate a Ghostbusters action figure that looked like Dan Akroyd? Dan Akroyd IS a Ghostbuster.
No matter what way we try to spin it, everyone you named is a “Hollywood actor” portraying a fictional character. So by you’re own admission, if one were to display any of the characters from any franchise you just named, they would literally be a “Hollywood actor” on display. And guess what, people have their preferences, but even the comic interactions are not definitive looks for the characters.
You can definitely have that same energy, because it’s a fact. He said, “It’s strange to collect figures of real people”. Are Dan Akroyd, Michael J. Fox, Robert Downey, Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford real people? Yes. Then if it’s strange to collect figures of real people, why collect their characters from those films? It doesn’t matter where they existed first.
I’m going to let this one go, because I know where I am, and I know what’s about to happen. I’ve seen the writing on the wall for a while now, and it’s time for me to step away. I pointed out what I need to, and if you understand what I’m saying, that’s cool, if not that’s cool too. Different strokes for different folks. I’m out of here before this goes too far, we stray of course, and the mods have to wipe this conversation away.
Thank you for engaging with me, my friend. Keep collecting and keep enjoying your hobby.
