Bumping this thread now that the movie is officially out....

Last time I checked, New Mutants was about a bunch of joyful kids who did kid stuff with bright colors and had fun when they went out on adventures. Unless this movie takes place during Inferno, it makes no friggin sense.
It actually does show clips of "Logan" in this and does tie to it as well....

And hell yeah on the Comic accurate versions of the characters!
For those that mentioned the "Horror" part, they may have toned it down? Not sure since this movie's released date kept getting pushed back so who knows if they edited it down some during these past years...

Which is... you know, pretty early into the run (issues 18-20). And that shiz was trippy as hell. I mean, a supernatural horror suspense story drawn by Bill Sienkiewicz? I'd
expect
a movie to push the horror angle.
Not to mention the fact that the team has long had connections to the fantastical and horrific elements of the Marvel universe (Asgard, almost everything having to do with Illyana). Personally, I think it's great to see an attempt at supernatural horror in a superhero film. After all, taking on existing genres and tropes and giving them a superhero-y tweak is why the Marvel movies have been pretty consistently good (barring personal opinion, of course).
You're totally right, that's what this storyline was based on, even before my time of reading New Mutants, I think most people are used to the New Mutants that was the Liefeld version and the one after it.

To me the thing to remember is (if they were in real life) mutants are not just people who are fighting persecution while fighting villains; they are also fighting persecution while not fighting them as well, put them in any situation and they are still mutants. The standard genre of superhero movies has simply seemed the easiest way to highlight their powers, doesn't mean we can't go down different paths. Deadpool already halfhearted did that, I don't mean it was a halfhearted movie, it was half comedy and half standard superhero movie.
This was actually a well made movie for what it was representing the New Mutants. Loved Illayana in this, they did an excellent job representing her, and they even showcased Lockheed!!! Everyone else did a pretty good job of representing the other mutants down to Cannonball's accent as well. It didn't have too much "Teen Angst" either in it. I would have enjoved this on the big screen if it was released on time...Too bad this is probably the last Mutant movie we'll get though, even though Marvel has the rights to the Mutants but who knows when they'll ever go down that path of revisiting them.
