Found Rhinox and Zemo at Target today. This is a perfectly good Rhinox but the T30 figure is still just better to me, really the main thing this new one has on the older one is that it's much better put together as a toy. Focusing just on the new one though separate from any comparisons it has some problems but nothing overly damning. First big one for me is that the head is just so off, every other Beast Wars figure in Kingdom has a very cartoon accurate portrait and Rhinox just does not. It looks like a small-headed G1 bot wearing a Rhinox-inspired helmet and it doesn't have the Maximal symbols on either side of the forehead either. My second main issue is that the transformation gets pretty vague in the back-half of turning him into a rhino with lots of small parts getting in each other's way and mostly requiring everything to just be crammed and forced together leaving me hoping that everything lined up right somewhere in between. The last big complaint then is the meatloaf with legs called his rhino mode, it took me a while to set up a flattering angle for a picture because this thing has huge hulked out front legs but sad atrophied back legs. The rhino head is done well though except for the horns being either the wrong size or shape but I easily let those slide because otherwise the front horn would be a problem in robot mode. My smaller gripe then is how dinky his chainguns of doom are, they look good from the front but like a cardboard cutout they lose all presence when seen from basically any other angle. The faux-jaw chest is the last thing I'll comment on because he has that big ol' faux-jaw on his chest but if you followed the instructions you can see the rhino's actual lower jaw right behind his freaking head. This situation can be avoided though by flipping the rhino's lower jaw down into the bottom of the head cavity which is then hidden behind his back leaving the hood-like empty upper jaw behind the robot head.
I just wrote a paragraph that shits all over this toy but I do like it overall, I just wanted to hammer out my grievances. The colors and paint that are applied all work for the character even if they're not exactly accurate and although the transformation is a bit fiddly both modes are solid and everything holds well. The articulation in robot mode is pretty good for such a stocky design and he sizes up pretty well being just a bit taller than Optimus Primal but shorter than Dinobot. If you don't have the T30 Rhinox and want the character it's an easy recommendation but it's not without flaws.
