I'm with you. The bases are a distraction from otherwise great sculpts. It must be a real bugaboo for sculptors, trying to support awkward character poses in a way that doesn't detract. It's why my favorite statues are usually the simplest. Higher end labels could take a cue from Eaglemoss in that regard. I submit that one of the reasons why the ArtFX Wonder Woman statue from 2017 was such a success is that it was a great sculpt with a base that was simple and unobtrusive. (I'm still trying to lay hands on one of those for a price that isn't ridiculous.)
