Found the McFarlane battle damage Batman at Target. So I forgot that this actually does have a new cape compared to the figure from the Build-a Merciless wave, otherwise though it's a straight repaint. The cape on the build-a wave release was very windswept and appeared short but not particularly damaged, for this version it is significantly tattered. The main draw here for me though was the new paint scheme. The battle scars across Batman were all sculpted the first time around but now they're actually filled in with red to accentuate their presence instead of just being the same grey as the non-damaged parts. Similarly some blood has been added to the mouth on his right side that I think makes the facial expression work better than it did without it. The biggest improvement for me though is that this time the underside of his cape is purple, it was fine in black but one of the reasons I think this costume really works so well in the comics was that purple so I like it when the toys follow suit. I have no idea if the color of the axes or the exact shades of grey and yellow are different since I never got the last one. If you already have the previous version there probably isn't much pull to buy this one at all but if you, like me, passed on that release then I think it's a pretty cool Batman for a battle damaged look.
