I would actually contend that the BAF Venom was better than the deluxe version because the BAF used Gargan's color scheme while the deluxe used Brock's but in the comics Gargan was the only one who "hulked" out like that. With Kingpin then I feel like it's not totally fair to compare since they're each going for a pretty different look (even though the sculpt is mostly identical). The BAF went with the modern monochrome style suit and tie while the deluxe went with the more colorful classic outfit with the ascot. It's not as severe of a difference but it's also why I wouldn't compare the BAF Apocalypse to the deluxe.
