I know sheer pragmatism is the main culprit here (re-uses are cheap, making sure kids can keep using their existing toys makes the parents less hesitant to buy into a new line) but the Super Powers line directly informed so many DC toylines.

Super Powers, Toybiz's DC line, Kenner's Dark Knight Collection, Batman Returns, Batman TAS, Batman Forever, Superman TAS, Batman & Robin, New Adventures, and when Mattel snapped up the license, their TNBA, JL, and JLU lines were all backward compatible as well....

Super Powers is right up there with Star Wars, Barbie, and ARAH in longevity, and it's so cool to see it getting some modern love.
