Anyway, Nagi was in love with the same woman as Hamato Yoshi. Nagi kidnapped the woman after learning she was in love with Hamato and challenged Hamato to a fight to the death. Hamato won and both he and his love fled to America. Oroku vowed vengeance for his brother's murder and trained as a Foot Ninja, rising to the ranks of Shredder. Actually, oruku is the family name. Nagi was the older brother, saki the younger one. I am flipping through the pages of TMNT issue 1, and typing… ahem… Hamato Yoshi, Splinter’s owner, killed Nagi when he attempted to rape and murder the woman they both loved (kidnapping would not have her beaten, breast exposed, saying “if I cannot have her, no one will!”). In a fit of anger, Yoshi beat him to death. No challenge. Raw hatred. Shamed he let emotions overcome him, he and left for America with his love. Saki, Nagi’s younger brother, vowed vengeance on the coffin of his brother. Trained hard and quickly rose in the ranks of The Foot. Eventually, he was given a leadership position in the expansion of The Foot, taking them to New York City. It is there he adopts the name The Shredder, and devotes the Foot to a specialized organized crime protection racket. As “The Shredder” he kills Yoshi and his wife. Splinter (exceptionally long lived for a garden variety pet rat) was left homeless, and the rest is history….
