En Sabah Nerd's suggestion of using wire makes the most sense. Typically when you see glasses with plastic lenses, they're not entirely transparent and they end up covering the eyes. Plus the paint on the clear plastic frames doesn't look great either.

I came across this guide for making your own glasses out of wire. You can get small rolls of colored craft wire at Walmart. It's an option if you don't want to paint them yourself.
