Had a much more expensive weekend than I thought I would. Leatherface from Best Buy, Ironhide and Batman at Gamestop, Spider-People at Target, Optimus with Bullseye and the Skeletor pack were discounted at Target, and then Walmart surprised me by already having a May 4th end-aisle display set up.
This Leatherface follows up on the quality of the most recent version. Mezco included the options to have the dinner-jacket look with their figure but this is the first dedicated figure for it in a long time. The accessory count is much lighter than the standard Leatherface but makes sense considering this is just how he looks in the back-end of the movie.
I haven't gotten any of the other Studio Series WFC figures because so far I've been happy with the originals from the Generations line, but Ironhide was never made back then. Target Optimus was 30% off. I think using red for the eyes is a little sinister looking (maybe should've been blue or yellow) but repainting Ravage into Bullseye who transforms into a Target shipper box/envelope is rather charming. It would have been a simple but cute touch to have included one of the red concrete Target balls for Optimus to play with Bullseye like the box art depicts. Since other people first reported finding it I'd been on the lookout for the Epic Hero Series Spider-Gwen so I was happy to finally see one, happy enough to decide to get the Miles/Vulture and Peter/Green Goblin packs as well. As I was leaving the Target toy section I checked the clearance area and found the Skeletor and Demogorgon MotU/Stranger Things pack down to $10, I really just got it for the goofy classic Skeletor at that price. I really prefer the Begins Batsuit over the Dark Knight separated plate armor so I like that McFarlane put this in the line, but much like their Reeve Superman I feel like the NECA version has better shelf-presence while these handle better. The batarang clutching hand is a really cool touch. I left Commander Cody in the box for now because I am trying to figure out how I can open it while generally preserving the cardback and front insert, the smooth bubble shape isn't as easy to approach with the hobby-knife like the other retro packaged figures have been. The Ahsoka Clone Wars visions Rex and Anakin both have some slightly loose joints and Rex's torso armor is very floaty when the helmet isn't on to hold it down but they pair great together. It's also nice to get a Rex that can actually hold both pistols like he intends to use them.
