Kidding, just kidding. I just don't see anything good about the movie beyond the base fact that it exists. It made way too many arbitrary changes to what the vast majority of fans *really* wanted - a straight G1 movie - and gave nothing better in return. Seriously, change the character names and there's absolutely nothing to prevent it from being called a GoBots movie, or any other random 'robots turn into everyday stuff' movie.

As to the truly great 'comic movies'; you gotta expand a bit to include 'comic-inspired' movies as well as adaptations of direct comics.

I can't put these in order as they're good movies, period; and ranking them doesn't really show anything more than arbitrary personal preference.

DarkMan - Sam Raimi, Liam Neeson, even more farking ugly than Anakin at the end of RotS; what more do you need?

The Rocketeer - pretty much the most perfect straight adaptation ever.

300 - Again, pretty much putting the exact thing seen in the comic on the screen.

Blade and Blade II - If it weren't for Blade, pretty much none of the comics flicks we've been enjoying for the past decade would have happened; and Blade II was pretty much perfect in every way.

Hellboy and Hellboy II - While there are very large liberties taken with the overall tone of the mythos, and the romance between Red and Liz; it's one of the few times where the director's influence actually works better than the root material (altho I think the Mignola comics are damned near perfect and work better than comics based on the movies would work).

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight - Not quite the Batflicks anyone *really*really*really* wants to see; they succeed simply by taking the premise and mythos seriously. The guy watched his parents get murdered at 6 years of age; it's not something to lampoon, dammit! Make a friggin' Plastic Man movie if that's what you wanna see.

The Punisher - I've not seen the new one, but I'm hearing it's pretty much exactly what Punny fans want and like. However, I'm not a big Punny fan and really appreciated Jane's portrayal that showed how much Frank grieved and drank to bury his misery. That's not a side I see in a lot of comics, and it totally works to make Frank sympathetic. Playing up the whole 'Old West' vibe really works well, too.

SpiderMan and SpiderMan II - Yeah, 3 sucked because Sony forced Raimi to wedge Venom in it; but it wins for me simply because Bryce Howard makes for a stunningly hot Gwen Stacy. Damn she's nice as a blonde. Anyway, this is another example of how fidelity to the core material makes for great comics flicks. Raimi was a fan of Spidey from way back, and didn't feel a need to make 'his Spidey' flick. I wish more directors thought this way.

Iron Man - I'm sensing a trend here. Let somebody that's a fan of the character as he/she is do the movie, and you'll get a good movie.

X2 - Hot monkey crap, we *finally* get to see Wolvie actually kill some dudes. Plus NightCrawler was pretty damned faithful to who he is, if not how he looks. X3 failed to me by throwing away the Phoenix flames in favor of some goth chick makeup effects. Stupid choice, Ratner!

While technically originating in comic books, it's not quite right to put The Road to Perdition, A History of Violence, and Ghost World here because, let's admit it, we all think 'superheros' when we think 'comic books'. Hopefully, we'll be able to put Watchmen at the top of all these lists in a couple months.
