The thing is, in terms of figures there really aren't that many Thor variants in this line (in fact there's already more Captain America variants in the Cap line).

The first wave was 3 Thor figures, Loki, Odin, and the Frost Giant. But the case packouts make it even more Thor-heavy.

In terms of sales, it seems to move reasonably well at Target and TRU, but Wal-Mart has a wall of Thor figures that don't seem to be moving much (unless it's a Silver Odin).

It did seem to pick up briefly the week after the movie, but then stagnated again. I think if Wave 2 had hit the week the movie released it would have worked out much better. Now they're missing the boat and shelves are starting to clog. Glad I've got my preorders in at BBTS.

The Cap line has the illusion of moving better, but in truth that line has only barely started to hit. In a few weeks, it'll likely be clogging pegs (almost) as badly as Thor.

And no "comic series figures" would not save the Thor line. To most people they'd look even sillier than the movie-based figures.
