Hi,

Thanks for the article, that might deff come in handy! Have you tried it out on any figures?

Anyway here is what I ended up doing. I scrubbed down the most superficial dirt with a Melamine sponge. For the marker on the teeth I used a hard rubber eraser, it worked quite well as long as the surface was firm or had a firm underlay (the rubber actually also removed most of the pink tint.)

The parts I could not reach with the rubber i scrubbed down again with the sponge and cleaned down with an Acetone free nail polish remover.

The remover worked really well on unpainted rubber and plastic parts, on paint parts however there was quite an individual difference. Mostly the original figure paint dissolved only very little as long as it was immediately rinsed with water. Two of the figures had metallic paints and the remover ate right into that. So much that I had to give up cleaning those parts. I also deff learned not to scrub with Acetone free nail polish remover! However when applied and gently rubbed with a cotton swab, it worked quite well most of the time.

So I think that there they are, as good as they will get after fifteen years as kids toys, flea market goods and attic store-aways!
