Paramount Pictures announced today that Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the highly anticipated third film in the blockbuster Transformers franchise, surged to an IMAX opening launch record for a U.S. movie in The People's Republic of China, garnering approximately $3.7 million on 31 screens over the four-day opening, for a per-screen average of $120,000. This represents IMAX's widest release in China to date, and surpasses the previous IMAX opening weekend record of $97,400 per screen for Avatar.
