Not even. Go to your local Toys R Us. They have 2 aisles full of "Adult Collectibles." Also, look at the designs of many of today's toys. They go so overkill with "detail" that they sacrifice play value. Transformers are an EXCELLENT example of that. Leader-Class toys are in NO way intended to ever be in the hands of a child. Many voyager class Transformers require parental intervention to transform too, due to the extreme complication of the toy. In '84 when I had the entire G1 line, I never had a problem with a single TF toy as a 7 year old. Hasbro has become a LOT better with their super hero figures, adding ball joints and articulation, but most of the characters are ones only the most die-hard adult collector would know of or want. No kid knows who the Taskmaster is. No kid wants the 1978 variant of Wolverine's costume from issue 198 on page 5. The toy market seems so intense on picking the pocket of aging nerds rather than cultivate a relationship with the next generation of nerds.

Case in point: My 6 year old son really wanted an Optimus Prime toy. I gave him a Voyager movie Prime. That thing spends 99% of it's time in a bin, too difficult for him to enjoy, since it takes 10 months to transform.... meanwhile, he's always trying to sneak away with my G1 Prime I've had since the 80's. It transforms in 45 seconds and has TONS of play value.

We go to the toy aisle, does he reach for a toy of the Wrecking Crew? Nope. He digs around for a character or two he actually recognizes from the cartoons. He wants Venom, not Tarantula. Doctor Doom, not Taskmaster. That's all. Don't get me wrong, I don't care that Hasbro makes a Taskmaster toy, but I do get upset that there is one Green Goblin and 12 Taskmasters per shipment. That's all. Hopefully this clears it up.
