But this is where it becomes an issue.
Hasbro isn't making loads of
NEW
characters with their repaints, they're just repainting figures and we're getting the
same people over and over
. THIS is where shelf warming comes into play in MU. Iron man, Spiderman, more and more Iron man.. they sit. Because a repaint to give us the same character is dumb.
Phoenix becoming Psylocke? Not the best mold no.. but I'm 110% more apt to buy Psylocke than an Iron Man with a blue arc reactor as opposed to the yellow one on my shelf for the same price..
To be fair to Hasbro, some of these repaints are in regards to fan's comments and requests. People didn't like Magneto - they give us a repaint. People commented that about Ultron - we get a green eyed Ultron. Someone said, "I wish Juggernaut had a removable helmet." Guess what we get? No removable helmet, but a new head. So, we get about half of what we want but you can't say that they aren't responding to their consumers.
Of course, repainting Pheonix to Psylocke is beneficial to us because it got the figure to the us much faster than having to create a new mold for the head or torso. That may have saved as much as a year in production. It will be great when they get a new female torso to enable some different proportioned bodies or styled frames ... or even height differences! Hasbro has really done a lot with only figure bodies.
But I agree - enough with the Iron Man figures and their random variants. Let them go into the IM and Avengers figure lines.
