I'm not satisfied with it. I don't hate it, but it's nowhere near as good as it could be.
We've gotten a movie that for better or worse, was a bit lacking.
We've gotten one GL Animated movie that was also a bit lacking (More-over, they tried to cram three full length movies into less than an hour and a half), and one GL Animated movie that was about one of the most stunning adaptations of a comicbook I've seen.
Then there's Young Justice, which starts a whole new setting, with beautiful character designs, and great animation. Great writing, and dispite not originally liking the new setting, has made me want to see more of it.
When I heard there was going to be a GL Animated Series, I'd inadvertantly let my hopes get too high, I guess. WB had made a great effort in the past of creating a comprehensive animated universe that keeps building on itself, starting with the best Batman series to date, continued it with Superman, Justice League, and bookended it with Batman Beyond.
So, I'd hoped that GL would follow in suit building on what Young Justice had started.
Or, since a lot of the voices carried over, I'd also hoped that if not YJ, it would use Emerald Knights as it's "pilot," and build from there, with Jordan as a seasoned pro, and follow the rookie Arisia.
But, we get neither.
Animation: I hate it. The CG is hugely lacking. It's about on par with Prime, only without Prime's beautiful textures (At least it's not overanimated like Prime).
Character Design... I can't honestly tell if it's Bruce Timm, or Derrick Wyatt's style. Hal looks classic Timm, but everyone else (Especially Razor, and the very first GL shown) look to be Wyatt. Kilowog could be anywhere in between.
However, neither style works in CG. I would have never chosen Wyatt to be the art designer for GL... but his style does *not* transfer into CG at all. Neither does Timm. And Jordan is waaay too buff. He should never look like he could lay superman out with one punch.
Plus, once again CG is so limiting that we're never going to get to see as wide and diverse a universe as we would with traditional animation.
Story: Not bad. I have no problems with the plot or direction. And given the number of lanterns that have voices cast, I know they're gonna be in the outlands only for a little while longer.
I'm disappointed that it didn't follow YJ or EK continuity, but I'll be happy with this.
I can get passed the bad animation of Voltron Force, I can get passed the bad animation in this.
