Then how can you give any advice on raising a child if you haven't experienced it for yourself? As thechris said, just because you had some scary experiences(that may have messed you up) as a child it doesn't mean all children will. All kids are wired differently. Some can handle things like that, some can't. Alot of it comes down to how the parents chose to raise their kid or kids. It's not like my daughter has nightmares about the "spooky" action figures in my room, if that were the case, I would be more concerned...but there's no point in me getting rid of figures it's taken me years to compile, when I can just as easily make sure she doesn't go in my room. If something as harmless as the Footloose remake disturbed you in such a manner, how do you handle movies like Saw, or Hostel, or The Human Centipede? None of which should be watched by children, but again with Footloose, and back to what you were originally talking about, I don't see alot of kids going to watch that movie...first of all I don't know any of today's kids who even remember the original. This movie was more for adults that enjoyed the original. Kids do watch things like this sometimes(remember I was 5 and watching slasher movies) but I don't see what the problem is...so there's some sensuality in it....all kids need to know about that eventually anyway. I learned about the birds and the bees at a very young age...and it didn't scar me. As for vulgarity, most kids hear their parents using vulgar language at a young age, and if the parents are worth a damn they let their kids know that it's a "bad word" and they shouldn't say it. That's usually good enough. But I really don't see something like Footloose scarring a child...hell in truth, I don't see any children watching it...I don't really see many adults watching it, because it's probably going to suck.
