I could be wrong, but I think you need a print ad, can't always just say "these are cheaper at so and so".

I've called zellers on my cell and handed it to a clerk only for her to say o they are cheaper over there, and they gave me the difference, if you have the flyer clipping then yeh no issues, but if not tell them it's cheaper and most often unless it's a huge amount different they'll just give u the discount or they may call the store directly. I've done it for videogames.
