Ok, so this isn't just me showing off each cover and thats it I am going to tell you a bit about each issue.

First up is Captain Savage and his Battlefield Raiders 10
"To The Last Man"
Written by Gary Friedrich, Pencils Dick Ayers, Inker John Severin

The Leatherneck Raiders are in the South Pacific training on an island in the middle of nowhere when a "Nip Fleet" appears and starts to bomb the island. Captain Savage tells his "gyrines" they need to get back to the base and report in. It looks like an invasion and they needed to get off an alert. During the bombings a tree is knocked over onto Little Bear knocking him out and pinning him to the ground. Savage wanted to leave him behind but Sarge convinced him to lift the tree and then he would carry the 300 pound "rasslin injun" back to base. The rest of the group heads out and starts the defense. The Sarge carries his man but a bomb goes off looking as if he was killed. After a while troops land and the forces are engaged by invaders. Savage was given command command of most of the troops and he did his best to hold the line. Wave after wave came and during the fight there were a lot of punches thrown (why?) but it could not stop the invading "nips". Just as it seemed helpless Sarge, Little Bear and a wave of fresh troops came in from behind killing most (off panel) and capturing the rest. It turned out that this attack was a feint to go after another target. Command figured it out, repulsed the attack and parachuted fresh troops in.

The issue had a teaser that #11 would have a death and a meeting of Sargent Fury and his Howling Commandos.

Issue 16
"War is Hell...On Ice"

Writer Arnold Drake, Pencils Don Heck, Inker John Severin

The squad are roaring down the hill on skis, behind them are Japanese. Savage quickly sizes up the situation. He tells his troops to to go left and he will head left. The enemy recognizes the ploy and they follow. Savage looks back and sees that he was being followed he quickly grabbed a grenade and throws it into snow bank causing an avalanche trapping all but the leader. Savage put on the speed but trips as the enemy Lt comes forward and holds up a sword to his throat and say , "I would surrender if I were you Captain." Flash to a lounge and it has a white man holding a pool cue saying the same line. It turns out that the Japanese troops were just ski instructors in disguise having an exercise to just get the Leatherneck Raiders training. They are headed to the Aleutian Islands. When they get there they find a small igloo with a large "piece of tin foil". It turns out it is a radar dish that is part of a new English invention. They blab about it's importance and enter the igloo to find out it is a full blown super-villain base. Or what would be there. Somehow, without leaving any evidence, they build this vast underground base with large elevators multi-floor and 1200 personnel. The squad is there to kill, ummm stop anyone who lands. Pilots from hidden airfields ( I know the army engineer corp is good but this...) fly over and see a sub in the water. Quickly the destroy it and after a while they find out it was a huge balloon (what?) that let the other sub come in and drop troops. Afraid that this is going to be a base for bombers to stop off on their way over to the US (It is the route they would take). So Captain Savage takes his people out to check it out and one of them is injured by a "nip" and they head back to get him help. They come to an igloo owned by an Eskimo named Chaka. He has proclaimed himself "neutral" but helps bandage Yates. He then shows them how to get to the base. On the way out they find out he likes to sculpt and carve figures on idols. Outside his home is a carved totem pole that an "archaeologist" had come there dug around the area with a bulldozer and build the totem pole (how the hell?) While they were gone the Japanese came by wrecked the place except for the totme pole. Chaka does admit that a Japanese man put it up. They figure out it is a sign to where the "professor" had hidden fuel. The group set out to find them with Chaka coming along to get revenge for his destroyed carving, furniture and traps. Chaka uses his dog sled to transport Savage when they cross over a glacier a crack appears. Chaka is trapped but Savage uses his real strong back to leaver open the crack so Chaka makes it out. He is injured so Savage drives the sled and finds his people in a a firefight near a volcano. During the battle Chaka heads over near the Japs and gets hit but he is close enough to through a grenade into the volcano blowing it up, the "nips" up and the fuel. I think if he wanted to he could have remade the statues and traps but hey thats the way he was. It ends with Little Bear saying something nice.
