You know, I agree with you completely on this (with the exception of it being all that looks good to me). One of my favorite moments in the actual Ultimate Spider-Man comics was when he stood up in front of Kingpin and told him "You're soo Fat..." jokes. Completey nailed that type of humor based on what I see and hear in this trailer...
but the cutaways remind me more of Deadpool or even more like JD from Scrubs than anything I can pull from comics. And yet, somehow, it still seems to fit Spider-man and the tone of this cartoon. Interesting.
Thanks
I can't believe I missed the relation to the Deadpool humour with the cutaways. Since Spider-man has a sense of humour I can see it working as well, similar to the Teen Titans cartoon. Yeah I remember the Kingpin encounter, it was really well written.

The inclusion of Nick Fury was a staple in the actual Ultimate comics. The Ultimates had great run in's with Spidey in his comics, so why not here?
I guess my main problem is I keep forgetting that this primarily taking influence from the Ultimate Comics. However from what I remember though Nick Fury was a major player in the series, he never actually trained Spider-man, nor gave him equipment to help him. Instead he said that as soon as Peter turn 18, he is property of shield. In the meantime he let Peter learn by himself and make mistakes from which he could develop. It was about coming to terms with the abilities he had gained and developing those to the best they could be (similar to how Professor X trains the X-Men).

All that tells me is that this cartoon is not entirely based upon the comic series and is wisely pulling from Marvel's vast repertoire of Spidey lore and other popular characters like Iron Fist and Nova. I'm all for it!
That may be where my confusion comes in. Obviously they can't make a cartoon that copies one series of Spider-man comics, that would be silly. I'm all for taking influence from multiple sources, but the inclusion of the Iron Spider-man suit it just appears to be shoehorned in. It also feels like it's taking influence from the toy aisle as well, hence the costume changes and gadgets etc. Again, this is just going by the trailer, the episodes it all features in may tell a different story and my concerns will be quashed.

Peter always needed some sort of guidance. He's a kid. He's always also looked up to Men of Power. Even Tony in regular continuity was kind of a father figure personality at times when trying to explain the ways of the political world to Peter. So this seems fitting given his age. Peter make's many mistakes, just being a kid.
Fair enough, all good points

But you know what, Web swinging has it's limitations. And as such, Spidey through the years has been in Quinjets, boats, Space Shuttles and various vehicles to get to places web slinging couldn't take him...even if most of these vehicles he was being a spider stow-away.
Here's how my inner me who really wants to enjoy this show because I love Spidey is justifying it at the moment, lol:
1. Peter is 15, motorcycles are cool enough, let alone those with S.H.I.E.L.D tech! Why wouldn't he want one?
2. Peter, while smart, doesn't have unlimited resources to build things he may be capable of, upgrades are always sweet...did we mention they're free with joining shield?
3. Web Fluid is expensive and Peter has been prone to running out quite often. I'd imagine Motorcycle is a convenient alternative (and probably lasts one episode, lol)
4. Seriously, I don't care how old you are...who DOESN'T want a SHIELD issued Motorcycle?
While I agree web slinging has it's limitations, I can't see how a motorcycle (with web shooting capabilities) can replace it. I mean, he wouldn't use a motorcycle to chase bad guys down a street, he'd web swing. His web fluid is pretty versatile, we've seen what it can do over the years. Plus I'd imagine his dependancy on such a gadget will only make it difficult for him once it's been inevitably broken or destroyed. I guess it comes down to the feeling i'm getting with the Character being changed too much, which is my own problem and no one elses. Progression is a good thing, but in this case I feel it's more of a sidestep. It reminds me of a cartoon influence by toys, not a cartoon influenced by story. But once again, this is just going by the trailer and the cartoon itself could be better.
I do want to like this show, and I will watch it to give it a go. Just like I did with Thundercats (which I strongly dislike after watching 10 episodes...).

While I can see how the style would not be to everyone's tastes, I will say that the fight scenes were incredibly well coreographed. The designs were really well thought out, especially little details like Peter's t-shirt label poking out from behind his neck. I also really liked Wolverine and the X-men.
Like you say, we'll find out soon!
