Er...it was not retconned in any way- in fact the new scarlett spider (with his awesome coustme) is Kaine!

Kaine got killed recently (in The Grim Hunt) and ressurected by the Spider Queen thing from Spider Island (which I skipped). Some stuff happened and he got fixed up good- now he's a stable clone of Peter (a bit more muscular and still taller, I think) and has all Peter's powers- but none of his old powerset- and skipped town to find a life for himself.
He runs afowl of some human trafficers in Texas and gets involved despite telling himself that's not his thing and is a reluctant champion of a little mexican girl he rescued that he cant even talk to as he speaks no spanish. The girl has a contract on her and the bad guys that are trying to kill her are people Kaine used to run with (before the Clone Saga).

So he's basicly the same mean guy with Peter's powers in a cooler costume, taking the name of a clone he had occasionally tried to murder.
Oh, he cut his hair real short too- fits the mask better.
