Investing in action figures is just a bad idea overall. There's really no way to tell what's going to rise in price and what's going to be re-released a few months down the road and flood the market. Yeah, you'll occasionally hear stories about a $50 figure going for $220, but it's rare, and you're going to get a far better return with just about any other traditional method of investing. Like a 401k with matching contributions from your employer. Or just plain old mutual funds and bonds.

It's fun and exciting, don't get me wrong, but don't kick yourself over it. The market for toys is completely random, as it is for anything that can easily and cheaply be manufactured to meet demand, really. It's pretty much just a lottery with worse odds. Hopefully we never wind up with another idiotic craze like the early days of the Kenner Star Wars Power of the Force line in 96.
