I like to believe that the Lazarus Pit still exists somewhere and Ra's is once again biding his time in the shadows even though that doesn't really make sense. Too much to explain if they actually brought the character back I guess. Although the Lazarus Pit would have been a better explanation for healing Bruce's back than time and a punch. If they could have just left out the line about his vertebrae protruding from his back it would have been easy to accept that all Bruce needed was a few months rest and rehab.

I agree. I was really hoping for some sort of Lazarus pit reference at the very least. I think it might have convoluted the story too much though in the context of Nolan's Batman world , but who knows.
