A drybrush is giving an item depth and age "weathered look" You basically paint 1-2 coats entirely black, then using brown paint for the wooden handles or silver/chrome for the steel bits, you dip your brush into the color of choice and whipe 95% off onto a piece of paper-towel, from there you randomly cover the piece making the brown the top dominiate color with the black still poking through all the nooks and crannies. You could do it that way, or do a wash where you paint the entire thing solid brown, and use a really watered down black, aka 1 part paint to 3 parts water, and u want to barely touch the surface, but just enough so the paint drips down into the crevaces. Or you just paint the thing a solid color and not worry about the "wash/drybrush", from there 2 coats of clear and you are done.

It's not that hard once you get the hang of it, 2 bits of info to help is to read Jin Saotome's how to section, along with the one found on marvelousnews.com lots of useful advice. And if you are nervous about it, use acrylic paint as it's easily removable if you do mess up, *hot water and paper towel, and start with a test piece ie 1 of the weapons or a random toy you don't care about.
