It was more prominent on the VF-1S. Mine had a hairline crack that I thought was just a mold line but it eventually grew and I realized it really was a crack. My VF-1A Super Hikaru had a cracked hinge right out of the box. Remedied both by applying super glue and moving the hinges while the glue tried so that the hinges would not be glued to the metal. Everything is fine so far but I still worry that they will break eventually. It's been months but so far, so good.

The upcoming Strike reissues should also have the new crotch piece installed(seen on the recent ELINT Seeker). Since Bandai has YET to release the "DYRL? trio" I might settle for the upcoming Strike Hikaru w/flashlight.

I love the new 1/60 VF-1's, some of the most toyetic VF-1 toys that Yamato has made. Hinge issues aside, they are more solid than previous releases and definitely hand candy.
Thank you both. I havent seen any issues so far with my VF-1S Roy Fokker DYRL or my VF-1J with Super Parts. Tanks for the heads up. I also have the VF-1D which im glad to hear shouldnt have any issues.
