Most, like Annihilus were great, others, like removing Firelord's mouth, seemed drug-induced. Still, the story rocked so some changes were fine.

But it's no coincidece that Quasar and Nova's updated looks were by the same guy- he loooves them impractical pointy shoulder armor things!

Also, Quasar always had the Quantum Bands- they can be fashioned into different shapes to fit the wearer- past Protectors Of the Universe were avian or snaklelike or whatever. having a glowing gem on each leg is just senseless though- they'd have to be connected to the bands on the arms somehow...

I think it's more that no one at marvel expected the tsunami of pissed off Quasar fans when he was killed- or the total lack of support for Marvel's replacment Quasar (Phyla Vell). It's like they dont learn anything from past mistakes- they assumed Quasar fans would flock to Phyla Vell's title since, hey, it's the same name, right? now they're doing the same stupidity with Nova- assuming the popularity of Richard Rider will translate into popularity for Lobdell's nonsense.
It'll fail and Marvel will say "Gee, no one wants cosmic stories- we'll add on some more deadpool and Wolverine..."
At least with Quasar they gave story-centric reasonings behind the change with his rebirth in Nova's comic. The others definitely varied. The current costume has the quantum bands, but he did have to get them back again. It's been awhile since reading those comics, but it was a major story arc in the Nova comic and sub story in war of kings that bled over into the Thanos Imperitive too before he moved on to the Annihilators team and his current look.

As for the new Nova, the comic one isn't so bad. With all the hints they've been giving that he's from Missouri I do have to cut him some slack and like their approach with him being in awe of the heroes and being more authentic to a kid trying to play hero. The ultimate spidey toon one is just an arrogant douche that's nothing like the comic one so far other than the name. The comic one so far has had only 2 stories, and the first one by Loeb was meh, but the second one by a different writer was decent. The third it looks like we won't see until the next oneshot precedent setter for the MU like previously.

There was talk of a Nova variant that might be Richard Rider Nova Prime figure done up in Sam Alex comic colors. Though I could see them also possibly just putting the Nova head on a clean buck for classic Nova pre-promotion too.
