The victory they'll need is over the Phoinex people, not the Avengers.

And Iron Man was out-planning Batman back when Batman was still as cheesy as the 60's TV show. Iron Man, as far back as Iron Man #285 (like 1990) was training to beat the X-Men in holographic simulations- and back in Avengers West Coast, managed to knock the crap out of Magneto- bashing his helmet in!
Add to that all that wolveerine brings by way of inside information, and Tony would have had a means to take down all of Utopia with just some duct tape and a few paper clips.
