similar technique, water down some paint but not too watery. helps to use or mix the paint to be a darker tone to the color you'll be applying the wash to i.e. dark blue and dark grey. apply the watered down paint to the surface and in the crevices and use a cloth or towel to lightly wipe away the excess. can be done over a few passes to get the right consistency.
